Hello!
My name's Katherine - and I love to knit!
My mum taught me to knit when I was four or five but knitting didn't really happen for me until I was in my early twenties - when I spotted a cardigan that I not only want to wear, but was desperate to knit too. That was Kim's Hargeaves' "Sweet" and my needles have been busy ever since creating more garments, accessories, shawls, socks, toys and decorations. I love exploring new techniques, yarns and designs and always have more than one project on the go (although find it's a delicate balance between maintaining interest and being bogged down!).
What once was a hobby, I have been fortunate enough to develop into a business, now teaching workshops around the UK (often in travelling in the motor home with my family on board), publishing my own patterns, writing technical and review articles and my blog, tech editing patterns and, most wonderfully, meeting and making so many fantastic knitting friends. I absolutely love knitting among friends. In fact, my once non-knitting friends have joked about it being a pre-requisite for a deep and fulfilling friendship and although not true, I am more than happy to assist in starting (or developing) their knitting journeys.
Coming from a scientific background, I'm interesting in they "how" and "why" of knitting and get a tremendous amount of pleasure from sharing and learning from you, my fellow knitters, during our workshops together. Keeping up-to-date with knitting techniques is vital as a tutor and it's also important to be able to communicate these to knitters unable to attend the relevant workshops. As part of this, I have written a series of "How To" articles for Rowan:
"How to Two Colour Fair Isle" in the Rowan Newsletter Autumn 2017
"How to Knit Intarsia" in the Rowan Newsletter Winter 2017
"How to Knit Lace" in Rowan Newsletter Spring 2018
"How to Brioche" in the Rowan Summer 2018 Newsletter
"How to Knit in the Round" in the Rowan Autumn 18 Newsletter
"How to Work Flat and Circular Knitting" in the Rowan Autumn/Winter 2019 Newsletter
"The Importance of Tension" in the Rowan Autumn/Winter 2020 Newsletter
- as well as some additional articles for their subscribers' newsletters.
If you would like to receive regular updates of my adventures in yarn, you can follow me on Instagram (@katherine.lymer). If you would like to join my mailing list, please drop me an email at katherine{at}knittingwithkatherine.com (my sincerest apologies but the mailing list link from my website provider still isn't working). Whichever way you choose, it's lovely meeting you and thank you for stopping by.
Thank you for stopping by!
