Son, you’ll be oh-so-shocked to hear, is actually a bit of a budding baker and so, while we might not be snuggled up under the duvet in front of a film, we did cosy-up in the kitchen and make chocolate and banana muffins. In his words: Yummy, yummy.
Late morning, Friend arrives and we share a pot of tea and some muffins. It’s still raining but the day is promising to contain all the ingredients for a very contented Katherine: Happy Son, tea, cake, friend, chat - all we need now is some…… And, right on cue, the door bell rings: Lovely delivery man brings a box full of yarn! Yarn, glorious yarn. And I’d forgotten that it was coming, so this really is a wonderful surprise. Like a young child on Christmas morning, I excitedly rip open the box and examine its contents. But only briefly- Friend is a non-knitter and I don’t want to appear rude. Or strange – ogling what she probably thinks are only balls of wool (wool? No, no – this is Kid Silk Haze!). I put Yarn aside, we refill our mugs and continue putting the world to rights.
Friend leaves, I lunch with Son and then he goes for his siesta. And I am left alone with the Yarn. After ordering something a long time before it arrives, do you ever feel a sense of disappointment when said item finally makes its appearance on your door-step? Not so with today’s offering. The colour, although not one that I’ve chosen before, is still beautiful. A dusty pink – and so will be a very versatile piece of my wardrobe when transformed into finished garment. The quantity far exceeds that required for aforementioned project so further research is required to find additional projects. I know: It’s a tragedy.
The sun comes out as I put the yarn away. Temporarily, of course. We have a long car trip ahead of us. Evenings knitting with my mother. Train trips to and from a crochet course. The parcel really couldn’t have arrived at a better time. So now I’m off to find said pattern and needles and add both to my already large pile of knitting essentials. Clothes, who needs clothes? Knitting in PJs is far more comfortable.
